Call for Artists for the 18th Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival fiber arts exhibition “Spinning Sewn Stories – Promulgate, Piece, & Ply” at the Sequim Museum & Arts

“Spinning Sewn Stories – Promulgate, Piece, & Ply” is a juried fiber arts exhibition that includes the creative and pluck feats of artistic declarations that persevere over challenges and leap beyond barriers to be produced and shared. These crafty and cunning creations tempt fate and fortune to be made and demonstrate how the artist will not be deter and knows no limits. Fiber artworks of reinforced tales and yarns are spun from momentous consequences, family ties, and patched experiences. The choices artists make, the colors, patterns, topics, and materials, are part of the destiny they design for themselves while outwardly influencing hearts and minds asserting their unique artistic message and championing imaginative expression. Seasoned or newer creations are welcome. Open to all fiber arts media.

Deadline September 16, 2023. Enter a maximum of two art entries per artist; there is a $15 entry fee per artist. All formats of fiber art will be considered, including wall-hung, free-standing or pedestal mounted. Entries must be original and must not be copied, derivatives or based on other copyrighted or published work. All skill levels are welcome.

The “Spinning Sewn Stories – Promulgate, Piece, & Ply” exhibition is a component of the 18th Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival starting Oct 6-8, 2023 at the Sequim Museum & Arts location at 544 N Sequim Ave, Sequim WA 98382. The festival includes the First Friday Art Walk Sequim on October 6, 5:00 – 8:00 PM with fiber arts demonstrations and on Saturday, October 7, a Fiber Arts Market 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM with an exhibition opening reception 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. On November 3 during the First Friday Art Walk Sequim and on November 25 for Small Business Saturday Fiber Arts Market, engage and support local fiber artists. Many autumn fiber arts events and exhibitions happen throughout the months of September, October, and November on the Olympic Peninsula that are partnerships with the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

Surface Design Association – North Peninsula Chapter Member Exhibition “Fiber Revolution” Opens September 16 at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) presents “Fiber Revolution”, an exhibition of Surface Design Association – North Peninsula chapter members’ work. Features contemporary fiber art and design that pushes boundaries through innovation, creative techniques and fibers. Opening reception Saturday, Sept 16, 5:30 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition runs through Friday, Nov. 15. All work is available for purchase; a percentage of sales benefits PAFAC.

More than just cloth and thread, Surface Design Association — North Peninsula chapter members make their statements through woven, cast, sewn, quilted, embroidered, welded, and wearable pieces. Humble items like newspaper and repurposed plastic junk hang comfortably next to quilts constructed with innovative, improvisational piecing and an installation featuring a double weave method using hair-fine threads with a twist.

Techniques used in this show include felting, papermaking, hand stitching, beading, metal work, collage, weaving, photography, welding, eco-printing, dyeing, thread painting, discharging and overdyeing. Some of the materials used are bamboo, handmade paper, copper, inks, oil pastels, mesh produce bags, stainless steel thread, recycled paperboard packaging, newsprint, antique kimono, feathers, encaustic wax, and antique lace.

 

The Opening Reception for “Threads Count – Textiles, Technology & Tales” the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Exhibition is October 6 during the First Friday Art Walk Sequim from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St. Sequim WA.

Fiber Arts Exhibition 2017 at Studio Bob at 118 1/2 E. Front in Port Angeles WA sponsored by Cabled Fiber & Yarn and the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

Opening Reception on September 9 from 5 to 8 PM during the Second Weekend Art Event Port Angeles.

This non-juried exhibition by local and regional artists and craftspeople and will be on view also September 10, 23, and 24 from 12 to 3 PM.
