More than just cloth and thread, Surface Design Association — North Peninsula chapter members make their statements through woven, cast, sewn, quilted, embroidered, welded, and wearable pieces. Humble items like newspaper and repurposed plastic junk hang comfortably next to quilts constructed with innovative, improvisational piecing and an installation featuring a double weave method using hair-fine threads with a twist.

Techniques used in this show include felting, papermaking, hand stitching, beading, metal work, collage, weaving, photography, welding, eco-printing, dyeing, thread painting, discharging and overdyeing. Some of the materials used are bamboo, handmade paper, copper, inks, oil pastels, mesh produce bags, stainless steel thread, recycled paperboard packaging, newsprint, antique kimono, feathers, encaustic wax, and antique lace.
