The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival celebrates its 14th year which is always the first weekend in October in Sequim and various events and locations throughout autumn. Join us for this interactive fiber arts event connecting to the community with activities like a museum exhibition, workshops, educational demonstrations of fiber processes, hands-on projects for children and adults, Fiber Arts Market of local artists’ work and fiber supplies, and information about local fiber activities, groups, businesses, and instructional resources.

Filmmaker Andrea Love will share her films and behind the scenes stories, puppets, props, and fiber fun for the audience. Films include Tribeca Film Festival Official Selection “Fear” and real stories told by real puppets like “Revolution”, “Boulton Farm”, Finnriver Cider’s “Handcrafted Love”, “Bazaar Girls”, and many more. Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Hampshire College in 2010, concentrating in film studies and sustainable agriculture. For the past five years, she has been living in Port Townsend, Washington, working on organic farms and teaching herself the tedious and addicting craft of traditional animation.

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) presents “Fiber Revolution”, an exhibition of Surface Design Association – North Peninsula chapter members’ work. More than just cloth and thread, Surface Design Association — North Peninsula chapter members make their statements through woven, cast, sewn, quilted, embroidered, welded, and wearable pieces. Humble items like newspaper and repurposed plastic junk hang comfortably next to quilts constructed with innovative, improvisational piecing and an installation featuring a double weave method using hair-fine threads with a twist.
Techniques used in this show include felting, papermaking, hand stitching, beading, metal work, collage, weaving, photography, welding, eco-printing, dyeing, thread painting, discharging and overdyeing. Some of the materials used are bamboo, handmade paper, copper, inks, oil pastels, mesh produce bags, stainless steel thread, recycled paperboard packaging, newsprint, antique kimono, feathers, encaustic wax, and antique lace.
