Join us for this interactive fiber arts event connecting to the community with activities like a museum exhibition, educational demonstrations of fiber processes, hands-on experiences for children and adults, Fiber Arts Market of local artists’ work and fiber supplies, and information about local fiber activities, groups, businesses, and instructional resources. The North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival is an opportunity to experience positive inclusion, creative expression, encouraged education, the economic enterprise of art, and fostering fiber arts.

 

Celebrating our 16th year of the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival, we thank our excellent volunteers make this community event possible including several local fiber arts groups, artists, fiber friendly businesses, and educational organizations! We are grateful for their fostering natures and fiber arts talents. On Friday, October 1 during the First Friday Art Walk Sequim from 5:00 to 8:00 PM enjoy the “Bumblebunching – Warped, Twisted, & Imperfect” Opening Reception of the fiber arts exhibition which runs October 1 to November 27, 2021 at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 544 N Sequim Avenue, Sequim WA. This juried fiber arts exhibition celebrating happy accidents, successful satisfaction in Wabi-Sabi, and unintended artistic experiences that often lead to evolutionary forms of expression and joyful acceptance that experimentation is part of one’s art practice. Fiber Artists yearn for thorough planning and tight intention, gratification in challenging practice, and ritual appreciation and amusement in transience and incomplete mistakes. Bumblebunching are the exuberant jumbled loops created by the bobbin when stitching has improper tension while machine sewing.

On Saturday, October 2 from 11: 00 AM to 4:00 PM, we have an action-packed Fiber Arts Extravaganza full of free educational demonstrations, hands-on engagement for all ages, and Fiber Arts Market. The Fiber Arts Extravaganza inside the Sequim Museum & Arts at 544 N Sequim Avenue, Sequim WA. Visitors will have the opportunity to shop for items from fleece to finished products including apparel, household goods, and supplies to create your own fiber works. Demonstrations vary from spinning yarn, felting, knitting, hooking, weaving, and hand stitching. Learn more about local artists and fiber related groups to join our growing and supportive community. Also on Saturday at the museum, engage directly with the artists of the “Bumblebunching – Warped, Twisted, & Imperfect” exhibition to learn about what inspires them and how they create their art at the “Meet the Makers” Fiber Arts Reception throughout the afternoon. Bring your friends and family to discover the many forms of fiber arts and make some new friends too.

2021 – Bumblebunching – Warped, Twisted, & Imperfect

A juried fiber arts exhibition celebrating happy accidents, successful satisfaction in Wabi-Sabi, and unintended artistic experiences that often lead to evolutionary forms of expression and joyful acceptance that experimentation is part of one’s art practice.

Fiber Artists yearn for thorough planning and tight intention, gratification in challenging practice, and ritual appreciation and amusement in transience and incomplete mistakes. Seasoned or newer creations are welcome. Open to all fiber arts media.

Filmmaker Andrea Love will share her films and behind the scenes stories, puppets, props, and fiber fun for the audience. Films include Tribeca Film Festival Official Selection “Fear” and real stories told by real puppets like “Revolution”, “Boulton Farm”, Finnriver Cider’s “Handcrafted Love”, “Bazaar Girls”, and many more. Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Hampshire College in 2010, concentrating in film studies and sustainable agriculture. For the past five years, she has been living in Port Townsend, Washington, working on organic farms and teaching herself the tedious and addicting craft of traditional animation.
