Filmmaker Andrea Love will share her films and behind the scenes stories, puppets, props, and fiber fun for the audience. Films include Tribeca Film Festival Official Selection “Fear” and real stories told by real puppets like “Revolution”, “Boulton Farm”, Finnriver Cider’s “Handcrafted Love”, “Bazaar Girls”, and many more. Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Hampshire College in 2010, concentrating in film studies and sustainable agriculture. For the past five years, she has been living in Port Townsend, Washington, working on organic farms and teaching herself the tedious and addicting craft of traditional animation.

On Saturday, October 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., we have an action-packed Fiber Arts Extravaganza full of free educational demonstrations, hands-on engagement for all ages, and Fiber Arts Market. The Fiber Arts Extravaganza is at the City of Sequim Civic Center Plaza with the Sequim Farmers’ Market on the NW corner of Cedar Street and Sequim Avenue. Visitors will have the opportunity to shop for items from fleece to finished products including apparel, household goods, and supplies to create your own fiber works. Demonstrations vary from spinning yarn, felting, knitting, hooking, weaving, and hand stitching. Learn more about local artists and fiber related groups to join our growing and supportive community. Bring your friends and family to discover the many forms of fiber arts and make some new friends too.
On Sunday, October 8, we have a progressive party to meet the artists who are participating in two fiber arts exhibitions on the North Olympic Peninsula at the Sequim Museum and Arts, as well as, the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center. Surface Design Association – North Peninsula Chapter Member Exhibition “Fiber Revolution” Opens September 16 at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) presents “Fiber Revolution”, an exhibition of Surface Design Association – North Peninsula chapter members’ work. Features contemporary fiber art and design that pushes boundaries through innovation, creative techniques and fibers. Opening reception Saturday, Sept 16, 5:30 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition runs through Friday, Nov. 15. All work is available for purchase; a percentage of sales benefits PAFAC.

More than just cloth and thread, Surface Design Association — North Peninsula chapter members make their statements through woven, cast, sewn, quilted, embroidered, welded, and wearable pieces. Humble items like newspaper and repurposed plastic junk hang comfortably next to quilts constructed with innovative, improvisational piecing and an installation featuring a double weave method using hair-fine threads with a twist.

Techniques used in this show include felting, papermaking, hand stitching, beading, metal work, collage, weaving, photography, welding, eco-printing, dyeing, thread painting, discharging and overdyeing. Some of the materials used are bamboo, handmade paper, copper, inks, oil pastels, mesh produce bags, stainless steel thread, recycled paperboard packaging, newsprint, antique kimono, feathers, encaustic wax, and antique lace.

The “Threads Count” exhibition is a component of the 12th Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival on Oct 6 – 8, 2017 at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St., Sequim WA 98382. Many fiber arts events and exhibitions happen throughout the months of September, October, and November on the Olympic Peninsula that are partnerships with the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

Eligibility

  • All formats of fiber art will be considered, including wall-hung, free-standing, or pedestal mounted. Entries must be original and must not be copied, derivatives, or based on other copyrighted or published work. All skill levels welcome.
  • Include the dimensions and weight of your work with each entry.
  • Maximum of three art entries per artist. $15 entry fee per artist.
  • Please submit each piece of artwork entry together and pay for the $15 entry fee.
  • Collaborations are encouraged. $15 entry fee per artist. Each artist must enter separately and include each artist’s name, contact info, and artist statement along with information about the collaborative art piece. A collection of different pieces of art that are curated together are not considered one piece of art.

Selection Conditions

• Requirements of Artwork Images Files -Dimensions: At least, 1024 pixels horizontal or 1024 pixels vertical. File Format: JPG. File Name: JPG file names should include the Artist’s Name and correct file name extension, example: ArtistNameArtwork1.jpg

• Please include in the online entry the following information: Artist’s Name, Address, Phone number, Email, Website (optional) and Social Media Links (optional), Title, Date of work, Height, Width, Depth, Weight, Medium, wall hung or free standing, Sale price/NFS, Narrative Description of Artwork (200 characters or less.) and a brief Artist Statement (200 characters or less.)

• Entries will be juried from digital files.

• Work must be ready to hang and must be less than 60 inches x 60 inches. This limit is based on the wall sizes at the museum. Some exceptions for wearable art and outstanding works. Hanging work may not exceed 50 pounds. Freestanding work that exceeds 50 pounds must be delivered and installed by the artist.

• Work with glass or ceramics must be hand delivered. Work with plexiglass may be shipped.

• Sequim Museum & Arts reserves the right to refuse any work that does not match the sent jpeg image. The NOFAF Director may remove pieces that do not fit the Sequim Museum and Arts Exhibit Policy, or that are not up to the hanging standards provided in this document.

• A notification letter will be emailed to all.

Accepted Works

• Works can be hand delivered or shipped. Delivery and shipping instructions will be emailed with the notification.

• Artists are responsible for all shipping and handling costs to and from the exhibition.

• Each shipped entry must be packaged in a reusable container for the return of work.

• Shipped entries must have pre-paid return shipping labels. UPS or USPS return shipping preferred.

• Unsold shipped entries will be returned at the close of exhibit.

Liability, Sales, and Promotion

• Every reasonable precaution will be taken during the receiving, installation, exhibition, and return of work, but no representative of the Sequim Museum & Arts will assume responsibility for loss or damage incurred. Artists should carry their own insurance. Work should not be so fragile that shipment or public display is potentially harmful to the work or the viewer.

• Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work, alter the work or the sales price, nor withdraw the work after it has been accepted.

• Unless specified NFS, it is assumed that all work is for sale. The Sequim Museum & Arts receives a 30% commission of the sale price.

• Sequim Museum & Arts reserves the right to photograph entries for the purposes of documentation, education and publicity.

• Artists are encouraged to attend receptions and be part of the festival.

“Material Measurement – Magnitude, Meaning & Makers”

A juried fiber arts exhibition vindicating the volume and importance of all fiber in its many forms while reflecting on textiles, tales, and talent through enlightenment, abundance, accumulation, and perception. Conspicuous consumption or considerate consequences, creators convey cloth’s transformation from meaningless mass into something that matters. Seasoned or newer creations, open to all fiber arts media.

Maximum of three entries per artist. $5 entry fee per artwork piece.

Please submit each piece of artwork entry individually to pay for the $5 entry fee.

The “Material Measurement” exhibition is a component of the 11th Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival on Oct 1 and 2, 2016 at the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim – Dungeness Valley (MAC) at 175 West Cedar St., Sequim WA 98382. Many fiber arts events and exhibitions happen throughout the month of October on the Olympic Peninsula that are partnerships with the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Show and Sale at the Museum & Arts Center Small Business Saturday, November 28, 11 AM to 5 PM during Hometown for the Holidays

During the last day of the “Fostered Fiber” art exhibition, delight in a special Small Business Saturday Fiber Arts Market supporting local artists and producers selling fiber to finished products at Museum & Arts Center, 175 West Cedar St. Downtown Sequim on November 28 from 11 to 5.

Uncover unique presents of fine art, wearable art, accessories, housewares, yarn, fleece, and fuzzy gifts. Meet the creators and learn about the methods used to make these one-of-a-kind works.

Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to support neighborhood enterprises with unique shopping experiences that contribute to our local economy. Look for the hashtag #ShopSmall and signage of participating businesses.

Several small, homebased businesses will be selling at the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Show and Sale at the Museum & Arts Center. It is part of the festive Hometown for the Holidays events downtown Sequim on Saturday, November 28, 2015.
