The “Irresistible Aesthetics – Beauty, Absorption, & Ideology” exhibition is a component of the 14th Annual North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Oct 4 – 6, 2019 at the new Sequim Museum & Arts location at 544 N Sequim Ave, Sequim WA 98382. Many fiber arts events and exhibitions happen throughout the months of September, October, and November on the Olympic Peninsula that are partnerships with the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

Prospectus for exhibition “Irresistible Aesthetics – Beauty, Absorption, & Ideology”

A juried fiber arts exhibition of spellbinding, splendid, and sublime delights for the senses embracing the fascination of working with mesmerizing materials and hypnotic methods. Expressed as satisfyingly subtle to voraciously hedonistic, aesthetics is defined as the perception, appreciation, and creation of what is considered beautiful. Belief systems, color values, and personal philosophy are embedded into the pleasure of creating and experiencing fiber art creations. From utilitarian towels to fancy fluff, attraction and obsession fuel creators to produce exquisite works through time honored techniques and enthusiastic experimentation. Seasoned or newer creations are welcome. Open to all fiber arts media.

Uncover unique gifts of fine art, wearable art, accessories, housewares, yarn, fleece, and fuzzy treasures. Meet the creators and learn about the methods used to make these one-of-a-kind works. The Fiber Arts Extravaganza inside the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 W Cedar St. Visitors will have the opportunity to shop for items from fleece to finished products including apparel, household goods, and supplies to create your own fiber works. Demonstrations vary from spinning yarn, felting, knitting, hooking, weaving, and hand stitching. Learn more about local artists and fiber related groups to join our growing and supportive community.

Filmmaker Andrea Love will share her films and behind the scenes stories, puppets, props, and fiber fun for the audience. Films include Tribeca Film Festival Official Selection “Fear” and real stories told by real puppets like “Revolution”, “Boulton Farm”, Finnriver Cider’s “Handcrafted Love”, “Bazaar Girls”, and many more. Andrea graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Hampshire College in 2010, concentrating in film studies and sustainable agriculture. For the past five years, she has been living in Port Townsend, Washington, working on organic farms and teaching herself the tedious and addicting craft of traditional animation.

Surface Design Association – North Peninsula Chapter Member Exhibition “Fiber Revolution” Opens September 16 at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC) presents “Fiber Revolution”, an exhibition of Surface Design Association – North Peninsula chapter members’ work. Features contemporary fiber art and design that pushes boundaries through innovation, creative techniques and fibers. Opening reception Saturday, Sept 16, 5:30 to 8:00 PM. The exhibition runs through Friday, Nov. 15. All work is available for purchase; a percentage of sales benefits PAFAC.

More than just cloth and thread, Surface Design Association — North Peninsula chapter members make their statements through woven, cast, sewn, quilted, embroidered, welded, and wearable pieces. Humble items like newspaper and repurposed plastic junk hang comfortably next to quilts constructed with innovative, improvisational piecing and an installation featuring a double weave method using hair-fine threads with a twist.

Techniques used in this show include felting, papermaking, hand stitching, beading, metal work, collage, weaving, photography, welding, eco-printing, dyeing, thread painting, discharging and overdyeing. Some of the materials used are bamboo, handmade paper, copper, inks, oil pastels, mesh produce bags, stainless steel thread, recycled paperboard packaging, newsprint, antique kimono, feathers, encaustic wax, and antique lace.

 

The Opening Reception for “Threads Count – Textiles, Technology & Tales” the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival Exhibition is October 6 during the First Friday Art Walk Sequim from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Sequim Museum & Arts at 175 West Cedar St. Sequim WA.

Fiber Arts Exhibition 2017 at Studio Bob at 118 1/2 E. Front in Port Angeles WA sponsored by Cabled Fiber & Yarn and the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival.

Opening Reception on September 9 from 5 to 8 PM during the Second Weekend Art Event Port Angeles.

This non-juried exhibition by local and regional artists and craftspeople and will be on view also September 10, 23, and 24 from 12 to 3 PM.
